search string length

I can't search for 'RFL' in the training logs forum because RFL is 'too short'.

That seems silly.

Same with EOD.

Sickbean 09-25-2009 06:48 AM

Put *RFL*

That works

That only finds one post in "Logging Your Progress". So, unfortunately, it doesn't work.

I know vBulletin has this as one of its settings.

monkeyarms 09-25-2009 07:53 AM

google "RFL site:http://forums.lylemcdonald.com/"

Yeah but I usually search only thread titles. Google won't do that. And, it won't search only the training logs.

Are you searching titles only or the entire thread? I just want all threads in training logs with "RFL" in the title..

lylemcd 09-25-2009 08:41 AM

vbulletin.org

take it up with them.

type this line below exactly into the google text area

allinanchor: rfl site:lylemcdonald.com

OR go to "Advanced Search" on Google
expand the extra options
for the dropdown box "Where your keywords show up:"
choose "in links to the page"

This assumes that posts are linked to by post title (usually a fair assumption)

You'll have to play around more to figure out if you're getting threads or posts, and various other tweaks you may want

limiting to training logs would be trickier. Some of the phorum systems fake a directory tree out of the database so Google can get at that stuff. I don't know if Lyle has set that up (or if vbulletin lets you do it)

EDIT: looks like something like that has been set up - followed this off Google, but at the moment I don't know how to restrict
