Typical TN nonsense. Straps are a viable option for front squats if you lack the mobility to have a good front rack position or have some sort of restriction or injury that's preventing you from gripping the bar normally. For back squats I guess the latter could apply too. It can't really be compared to a safety bar squat either since the bar for that is cambered so the plates/centre of mass are slightly more forward, making it more challenging on the upper back and somewhat similar to a front squat.
