Thanks, Liberty! Hope your twins are letting you sleep. I remember those days (not with twins, tho).

Thought I'd feed the log a bit.

Over the past week I've been jogging about two miles a day, all but one of those days on sand, and also doing a ton of walking. My step counts show it:

12/20 (travel day): 8,075
12/21: 21,700
12/22: 17,470
12/23: 12,180
12/24: 25,040
12/25: 15,200
12/26: 12,600
12/27: 14,000
12/28: 15,000

7-day average: 16,000, more or less

Re "lifting", I don't have access to a gym here (and need a break anyway), but I did find a place where I could do pullups, albeit very uncomfortably. From the 21st through the 27th, I did between 12-20 pullups in sets of 3-5, depending on how long my fingers held out, each day. We've moved from that place, so this week I'll have to focus on pushups, lunges, ab work, and other BW exercises.

Diet has been OK. During the day I've mostly been eating yogurt, egg whites, fruit, and fresh fish. Dinners have been reasonable. Since Christmas, I've been enjoying drinks on the patio w/ my family in the evenings, and dessert every once in a while. All in all, I'm pleased with how my diet break is going.

I'm back. Didja miss me?

I managed to keep up with the running, hiking, swimming, and pullups throughout the trip. I can tell that I made progress on my aerobic fitness over the three weeks, even if I held steady at best on strength. I'm not going to type out all the rest of the days & steps, but the short version is that I averaged 15,000 steps a day, and only had two days (both big "swim" days) that I fell below 10,000 steps. Did pullups >2/3 of the days, pushups maybe 1/3.

Coming home was a bit of a shock, and the diet kind of went to crap Thurs-Sun. But, at least I've been working out:

Thurs: travel day, but walked during my waiting time at airports & got in 14,000 steps
Fri: upper body workout; 5,100 steps
Sat: no gym but shoveled for an hour, which my back felt. (8 freaking inches of snow, 275-300 feet of sidewalk/driveway.) 10,380 steps
Sun: full body + elliptical; 10,730 steps

Monday morning weigh-in: 148.6. That's up 4.2 pounds from the day before I left, but (a) it's not depleted, whereas the pre-trip weigh-in most definitely was, (b) I have a lot of food in my gut from the weekend, and (c) I'm in a water retention phase of my monthly cycle. Based on the mirror, I'd say I lost a bit of fat, especially in my legs, one of the 'last off' spots for me.

I need to come up with new goals for the new year. Alas, I also need to get my butt to work, so ...

Back again. Past two weeks have been OK in terms of working out but a disaster, diet-wise. I can see it and feel it in the loss of definition: e.g., my abs still show, but they are definitely not as prominent. I hate it when I do this to myself.

I'm doing a massive amount of traveling over the next couple of months (23,000 miles between now and mid-March), which will make it difficult to keep on a regular sleeping, dieting, and workout schedule. But, I'm committed to stemming the damage as much as possible. I'm going to do a week of a pretty dramatic deficit, mostly for mental health & to make me feel a bit better about myself, and then Trip #1 comes up.

Yesterday was day 1. Couldn't go to the gym, but I did manage to stay on point on food intake.

wish me luck...
