The either/or mindset has to do with very basic human need for predictability and safety, where 'one' thing must be followed (much like there's supposedly 'one' God) to be sure of what's going to happen. And if it's not 'one', then it's 'another'.

One of my recent per peeves is the apparent IIFYM (If It Fits Your Macros) hysteria.

Personally, I think people should blog endlessly about how they were so very 'IIFYC, of course'. Really, if you're on a diet and eat a non-retarded amount of protein then who cares what else you randomly use as a filler so long If It Fits Your Calories.

IIFYC. IIFYC.

Or you could overeat one day and undereat the next. Can that be shortened to a cute acronym?

I cannot wait to see how this is abused (outside of your intent)...

The last sentence of the third paragraph under The Clean Eater Example looks incomplete to me.

Quote:
In the clean freak’s mind, there are two binary options: you either eat clean 100% or you’re eating nothing but junk food at every meal every day. The idea that you might ‘eat clean’ (whatever those words mean to you) 80-90% of the time and include selective ‘unclean foods’ (whatever that means to you) the other 10-20% of the time.

Would it have made a difference when you were 19? Normally, you have to go through doing dumb stuff to learn.
