Default Regular exercise useless for long term weight control?

I have seen a study that claims that metabolism adapts when activity increase lowering BMR, compensating the increase in NEAT.

http://healthland.time.com/2012/07/2...-makes-us-fat/

Would this also apply for Thermic effect of activity or only NEAT?

Thermic effect of activity takes a modest decrease. U less you're planning on devoting years to becoming an efficient runner swimmer etc it's a non issue. And even then..
