Default Physiological Mechanism for Fat Loss while Regaining Lost Muscle

Lyle,

Im aware of the physiological mechanism for muscle memory for someone who went on a layoff and then came back, but what is the physiological mechanism for losing fat simultaneously when regaining lost muscle? Any studies on this phenomenon?

Ive had a lot illnesses this year and Im probably about 15% body fat and have lost about 10 lbs of muscle or so. Trying to use build muscle and lose fat simultaneously. Any diet suggestions?

Lyle,

Id seriously like to know the physiological mechanism for this? Could you at least hypothesize why this occurs?

Lost 10 lbs of muscle?! If you're that sick, maybe your priorities should lie elsewhere.

Seriously, though, trying to do what's optimal is rarely optimal. I doubt that many who end up gaining muscle and losing fat at the same time are actually purposefully trying to do so. It's probably the type of thing that happens more easily in beginners and/or the obese.

As far as I know, the physiological mechanisms for this are not that well understood.
