Default Strength and hypertrophy programs combined

I have come across programs that combine both strength and hypertrophy as the objective.

The form is straightforward.

The program is divided into upper and lower body.

Therein there is a further subdivision in that one upper body day is devoted to strength utilizing low reps, low volume and heavy weights mostly compounds.

The hypertrophy upper body day consists of high volume, high reps and lots of exercises, both compounds and isolation.

The same regimen applies to lower body.

How effective are such programs?

Sounds like Layne's PHAT, I'd argue its one of the good routines to switch to once GBR gains slow down, did you read the article on the main site?
