Default Question regarding breathing technique

Hi and sorry for my English in advance.

I was working out for 2 years, stopped for a year, and started working out again 3 months ago (doing Lyle's GBR). In my heavy lifts (RDL, Leg Press, Bench/OHP etc.) I am holding my breath during each (or few) rep.

Lately I'm feeling a bit fatigue during workout, mostly after each set and was wondering whether this is how I am supposed to feel. I know it should obviously make me feel tired, but, can holding your breath during lifts too often be dangerous; or in other words, could my breathing "technique" be harmful?

You don't really want to hold your breath per se. You can do the valsalva maneuver during the hard part of the lift, which is usually a good idea on the heavier compounds.

As far as feeling a bit of fatigue during a workout, yeah that happens lol. It probably isn't so much about the breathing is that doing heavy compounds near failure is hard (unless you're doing something strange like truly holding your breath for the whole set. Don't do that, obviously.)

Do you do any cardio or other forums of conditioning?

Thank you both very much!

No, and it actually sounds logical that I'm out of shape because I smoke way too many cigarretes lately.

I'd say on OHP and RDL of 6 reps, I'd beath twice (every 3 reps), while on other "heavy" lifts such as Bench Press and Leg Press I breath every one or two reps. I breath this way (a part from the article):
Others advocate keeping the breath held until the repetition is completed and breathing at the top.
