Default Fish oil salad dressing???

Hello all.

I used to make an acceptable salad dressing using flax oil and olive oil. I am now trying to get my EFAs as fish oil. I have two questions.

1. Does anybody has a recipe for a vinaigrette using fish oil that is actually palatable?

2. If you have worked it out, how much is the equivalent of 10 gelatin fish oil pills for your recipe?

I thank you in advance.

Default Salmon Oil Vinaigrette

I finally cracked this one.

Salmon Oil Vinaigrette

Serves 1

2 teaspoons "lemon flavored" salmon oil
1 pinch Herbs de Provence
pinch of salt
pinch of pepper
pinch of fresh garlic (1/4 teaspoon)
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
2 teaspoons white wine vinegar, or to taste

Shake in a small container and use in salads. It would probably go well in tuna or chicken breast salad, or tossed with shirataki noodles & scallops.

I obtained the salmon oil from Whole Foods Market. If I had salmon oil that was not lemon flavored I would add some lemon juice to the mix.

EFA analysis

This provides 3200 mg omega-3 total EFA, in the form of 1600 EPA, 1000 DHA and 300 "Other".

But this is a bit misleading. Unless you plan to thoroughly lick the shaker container, the salad mixing bowl and the plate (Don't judge me!) You will not actually take in that many EFAs. Based on what will be left behind as waste, I estimate that a serving of this dressing would replace 5 "regular" fish oil pills or 4 of the concentrated ones.

But it is nice to have actual oil on a salad again.

I have not tried this with cod liver or other fish oils.

Sorry about the maths goof. This is correct.

I just use a spray bottle to spritz some malt and wine vinegar on my salad. No oil needed.

BUT you could do a homemade authentic CEASAR dressing where you chop up anchovies in the dressing---

I absolutely agree that it sounds awful. I did some experiments before I got this one right. I posted this recipe because it tasted quite good! Obviously a nice olive oil would be better, but this is a good way to get your EFAs in - and it is lovely to have a real vinaigrette that can fit into a diet like RFL.

<Imitating an old TV commercial> Try it. You'll like it!

Disclaimer: I used the lemon-flavored salmon oil I bought from a Whole Foods Market. I cannot say whether or not this recipe would work with cod liver or other fish oils.
