This sums up most of what I read about cramping. Although with some new things I wasnt sure of.


I have had cramping issues for more than a year. Its better now (was one of those "no-sodium guys", mainly because I dont like the taste and didnt think it would do any good) but I still have lots of problems and have tried many things. One thing special in my case is that I am on high dose asthma medication, a drug known to cause potassium and/or magnesium loss. Supplementing with high dose magnesium (400-600mg/day) helps somewhat but it doesnt solve the problem. Supplementing with potassium is hard since I cant find any potassium supplements. I instead try to eat lots of potatoes and use a mineral salt with a mix of potassium, magnesium, sodium and iodide (and I also think theres some calcium in it).

I have also noticed the correlation between going lowcarb and getting cramps more often and more intense cramps as well.

Another thing that I discovered several months ago is if I look at my gastrocnemius when relaxed (any time of day) it has small twitches all over the place. This is a 24/7 activity that has been going on for probably at least a year.

I think I will try to religiously use some electrolytes in my fluids after workout from now on. Will also see if maybe taurin can help me.

Most ides about cramping tend to focus on a single electrolyte, potassium was blamed for quite some time which is the basic origin of the ‘eat a banana to stop cramping’ idea.

ideas?

Been getting gooche cramps a lot this round of RFL. Mainly while standing at the urinal which gets you some funny looks.
