Default Protein weight...raw or cooked

Hello folks.

Quick question...Am I supposed to weigh my protein before I cook it or after I cook it?

Thanks a million.

For chicken I weigh after cooking because I do a bunch all at the same time on a weekend. I have found chicken loses about 15% if it’s weight in water when I bake it, so just adjust down that much for the raw number I want. May not be extremely precise but makes it a ton easier to plan with.

As far as I'm aware the weights usually quoted are raw because that's how you buy it and it would be tricky for food retailers to give you an accurate idea of what the weight-to-nutrient ratios will be once it's cooked because that can vary a bit with the way you cook it and how much moisture it loses or retains

So if you cook chicken breast in bulk, and you're aiming for 200g portions - cook 1kg and then once it's cooked just divide it up into 5 equal portions - they won't weigh 200g each when cooked. Last week when I weighed this they were 140g each after cooking,
