May I ask what were some of the ideas you were contemplating or thinking you could do this with?
What drugs or supplements?
If yohimbine coukd trigger it ... Then what could put the brake on it from hitting full blown mania?

Hey Lyle, in recovery update 3, you mentioned finding a place to get folic acid supplements. Via athletigen and 23andme, I discovered that I have a mutation in the MTHFR gene that mutation reduces the enzymatic efficiency of MTHFR and reduces 5-MTHF production. Since Deplin is Rx only, do you know of any OTC folic acid supplements that cross the BBB? I would ask my psychiatrist for an Rx, but I just graduated and am technically not covered under university healthcare anymore - I have insurance now, but I have yet to find a doctor I like.

Mushrooms put me into a state that sounds sort of like mania a few times but if you are looking to go manic by taking mushrooms you are probably going to have a bad time. Also I am not bipolar to my knowledge.

True mania can be marked by hallucinations among everything else.

Hypomania, what I get, is more a loss of impulse control, spending a lot of money, poor sleep, endless creativity and certainly a general set of grandiose thoughts. Folks with substance abuse issues often go off the rails (and substnaces can kick them off the rails), many act out sexually, etc.

Mania is apparently quite dreadful.

Hypomania is quite awesome. At least until it ends and you crater into a depression from hell.

Interesting to hear you self described as somewhat socially awkward. Listening to podcasts you've featured on made for an interesting listen. The way you convey ideas and converse i found very entertaining and not at all like the flat, professorial ramblings i've encountered from people who are immersed in various scientific fIelds. I hope you do more. All the best dude.

Talking about an area of interest/expertise into a microphone and talking to strangers are not the same thing.

Hi, I was diagnosed with bipolar 1 with phychotic features, and then to mixed episodes in 2008. I read your articles, but I don't recall anything about diet, sorry bilbo missed it. I read that a ketogenic diet could be good as a mood stabilizer thus helping with manias. Lyle do you know if this is accurate?
