11/23-11/26: Week 12, Days 3-6
Diet break. Ate a lot, relaxed, did a bit of work, but mostly just enjoyed time with family and away from the office. I didn't worry about a temp pass at a gym, and instead just went for a few walks and rode the exercise bike for some LISS cardio. Oh, and I also hoisted an 18-lb turkey in 2 gallons of brine around, so that's something...

Notes for Monday, 11/27
I have 3 weeks and 3 days before I leave for vacation. I didn't step on the scale this morning, but I'd guess I'm sitting around 150 again because of all the food in my gut, replenished glycogen, and water retention.

Plan is pretty simple: clamp down on RFL. I'd still like to shoot for 144, which would be 20 pounds from start including initial water weight loss.

11/27 Week 12, Day 7
intake: OK
workout: lower body
steps: 8,500

11/28 Week 13, Day 1
intake: OK
workout: upper body
steps: 10,120

morning weigh-in: 149.6. I guess this is just one day after the diet break, but I confess it kinda sucks.

11/29 Week 13, Day 2
intake: OK
workout: 40 min LISS
steps: 8,900

11/30 Week 13, Day 3
intake: OK. Had a work dinner to go to. Ordered a filet mignon that was out-of-this-world delicious, although probably finished with butter
workout: none
steps: 6,226

Random Notes
  • My "thin pants" fit a bit better BUT ....
  • I need to buckle down on the diet a bit more. It's been too easy to have just one more slice of FF cheese, or another small serving of cottage cheese, or whatever. It doesn't help that food is *everywhere* at work, and although I'm good at avoiding the treats, the constant reminders make me think I'm hungry.
  • December is hitting with a vengeance at work. I expect long days and lots of work-related events with food.
  • Just 19 days until vacation. I'm. So. Ready.

Even when you know intellectually that the scale is just reflecting water weight, it can be so demoralizing to stick to this diet but see your scale weight going up!

12/1 Week 13, Day 4:
intake: good
workout: upper body
steps: 9,540

12/2 Week 13, Day 5 morning weigh-in: 144.8 (-4.8, -19.2)

My theory: as soon as I come on this board and complain about water weight, it goes away. It's definitely a causal effect. More seriously, I'm sure the big drop is a combination of (a) shedding some of the water weight (and glycogen stores, and food-in-the-gut) from the diet break, and (b) where I am in my monthly cycle.

Looking back over my old gym logs, 144.8 is exactly what I weighed on Dec 10, 2015. In some sense, then, I'm a week ahead of where I was 2 years ago. Alas, I was 2-3 reps stronger in 2015 by the metric of Consecutive Pullups Achieved.

The lesson: don't take a 7 month break from lifting, and eat too much through it.

12/2: Week 13, Day 5
intake: OK
steps: 12,740, inc 40 min on elliptical at a decent clip
workout: short full body + the cardio

12/3: Week 13, Day 6
intake: OK, but not great. Had a Quest bar plus 180 cals of rice-less sushi for lunch. Could have been a lot worse, but still way too many carbs & fat for RFL.
steps: 11,500
workout: 50 min fast-paced walking

12/4: Week 13, Day 7 morning check-in
Feeling puffy and bloated this morning. Hope it goes away before tomorrow's weigh-in.

12/4: Week 13, Day 7
intake: PSMF during day, free meal for dinner
workout: none
steps: 6,500

12/5: Week 14, Day 1
intake: OK
workout: upper body
steps: 9,050

12/5 morning weigh-in: 147.8 (+??, -16.2)

Weight was up, I expect because of the free meal last night, which involved lots o' salty, yummy preztels.

12/6: Week 14, Day 2
intake: 133 P / 13 F / 8 C. Back on the "c" food routine: chicken breasts, cauliflower, coffee, cheese (75% less fat), and Chobani plain Greek yogurt
workout: mostly a rest day, although I went for a mini-walk
steps: 6,500

Slept horribly last night and got up at 3:30 am, drank way too much coffee, and spent the rest of the day in a fog. Not one of my better days.

12/7: Week 14, Day 3 morning weigh-in : 145.6 (-2.2, -18.4).

Still hoping to hit 144 by the time I leave for vacation in 13 days. I have at least three holiday parties between now and then, so it's going to take some serious willpower!

*wave*

Hi! I've been following this log for some time. Finally wanted to pop in and thank you for the laughs and motivation. I really need both these days.

Cheers, Heidi

Hi MoEcho! Glad you get a chuckle or two out of this log, and perhaps a wee bit o' motivation. We all need that, sometimes.

12/7: Week 14, Day 3
intake: 53 P / 26 F / 36 C. Took a can of tuna to work for lunch, but didn't even have time to eat it. Pathetic.
workout: lower body
steps: 7666

12/7: Week 14, Day 4 morning weigh-in : 144.4 (-1.2, -19.6).

Second time I stepped on the scale it read 144.2, so I'm totally rounding that sucker down to 144.

Still going to keep chugging along to see if I can get solidly below 144.

In terms of visual progress, I'm only around 5 pounds heavier than in my avatar, but I had more muscle then. Although my abs are definitely visible now, they don't "pop" the way they do in the photo (which isn't photoshopped except to edit out my head and my kid).
- age: 42.5 then, 49.5 now
- starting point: back then, it was off a base of a bulk; this time it was off a base of couch-surfing
- diet protocol: back then, I did RFL followed by 3-4 rounds of UD2.0; this time, it's been something close to but not strict RFL.

If I had more time before the vacation, I'd take another break and then do a few rounds of UD2.0. But, I don't have time and, frankly, I don't look back on UD2.0 with much fondness.

Onward.

intake: P 134 / F 22 / C 27
workout: upper body
steps: 10,340

12/9: Week 14, Day 5
intake: P 163 / F 29 / C 34
workout: 60 min elliptical + abs + experimenting with face pulls
steps: 14,060

You've got to be kidding me. So close to goal, yet it still feels so far away...
