Default Plantar Fascia rupture advice?

I'm looking for advice from anyone who has experienced/has knowledge of these ruptures (particularly up by the toes and not in the more common heel area). Any additional (and sane) techniques for healing (other than the obvious - rest), and how I might find ways to get some activity off my feet. Being sedentary in a boot is no fun, would anything be safe for me to do upper-body-wise, no matter how simple?

I've been googling and searching these forums with little luck, so a even link to a thread I didn't see would be much appreciated. If the answer is just do nothing, that's fine too. Thanks in advance!
