Default Functional Movement Screening?

One of the personal training groups at the gym I've started at offered this as part of there initial sign-up package, not sure if it was useful or pseudoscience. Is this something that goes beyond what a good trainer could correct for? For background, I'm just looking to work with a trainer to learn proper lifting technique. I'd certainly be open for whatever a good trainer was telling me (like if I just wasn't cut out for a certain kind of lift), I just don't want to get caught up in a lot of PT-esque style exercises if they ultimately aren't warranted or are overly specialized.
