?there is however an immense amount ofw ork showing that cooking foods is not only superior from a nutrient absorption stance but was also part of what allowed humans to evolve big brains. Since we didn't need the digestive tract to get nutrients from uncooked foods, we could put that energy elsewhere.

The whole raw food cult is based on nonsense physiology and ideology.

probably there are a small number of foods you should eat uncooked, such as some of the veggies & fruits, fish oil (maybe encapsuled fish oil is cooked? idk really), cold-pressed olive oil (true cold-press olive oil right off the tree is so fresh its actually spicy as if it got chilly in it!) and maybe some nuts and seeds are also better uncooked (again, idk really, just guesstimating here). but outside that... i mean even if it was better for you (which it isn't just like lyle said) what you gonna do? eat raw rice? raw meat? raw pizza?

Our ancestors did everything they could to develop bigger brains so that one day we could argue about eating raw food and believe the Earth is flat in the space age.

There's a few different camps of raw eaters. The most common are the nuts, veggies and fruit raw people. There is a small sub-segment that eat raw meat (including chicken) and eggs. The planet is overpopulated any way.

This is not remotely relevant to what is being asked whici hs the raw food cult idea that all foods should be consumed raw. Usually based on some idea of it being alive or containing enzymes.

It's nonsense.

To add, there is a discussion around fire basically being one of the best inventions ever for this very reason.

Would recommend for anyone interested: https://www.amazon.com/Catching-Fire.../dp/0465013627

Somewhat large question but any thoughts on why so many anti-science diets propagate so much? For example, paleo, raw food, fear of meat/carbs/fats, etc.

It sure seems like the more advanced we get, the more you get people who vehemently deny scientific evidence and use anecdotal evidence to create these fad diets.

I think its a somewhat positive effect. Always have a bunch of guys undermining the status quo. mostly they're a bunch of idiots but a small percentage of them is the future "they saw it before anyone else did" kind of person. can't be too "perfect beehive" society anyway. in the words of Einstein: "we should take care not to make the intellect our god; it has, of course, powerful muscles, but no personality".

raw eating is still stupid though.
