Default Complex carbs?

I haven't had much luck finding anything on this topic.

It's common to see body builders and those aspiring to advocate eating complex carbohydrates.

I understand all the reasoning regarding insulin, etc.

For most bulking diets carbs are getting into the 450 g / day range and I personally do not want to be eating all complex carbs or even mostly complex carbs.

Is there anything wrong with eating stuff like fruity pebbles, pretzels, "white flour" based items like bagels, pasta, etc.?

I know for carb loads and refeeds these "refined" carbohydrate products are okay but what about for regular bulking up?

Are you really going to get fat sooner with more refined carb sources, assuming calories in are the same?

I would think only calories in/ calories out matters.

I would think the same.

Allthough getting multiple insulin spikes can be less optimal from a health perspective, but probably less then being overweight (fat). Then there's the processed food = less micronutrients and fibre, but on a bulk diet those can very well come from the rest of your food... a little less won't hurt you (think like 80% healthy 20% "bad")

And what's the fun in overeating if you're not allowed to eat stuff you like. Why would you do that to yourself. Just dont do it all the time and I suspect you'll be fine (allthough people no doubt will find ways to I need to read the rules post.I need to read the rules post.I need to read the rules post.I need to read the rules post. up every healthy advise their mother tells them)

what. white flour is complex

as whole grains and stuff, check out lyle's sticky at the top regarding fiber and he explains its effect on caloric losses and nutrient absorption

i eat about 500+ g/carbs per day and about half are complex. i would explode or I need to read the rules post.I need to read the rules post.I need to read the rules post.I need to read the rules post. my pants if i ate all complex. brown sugar on oatmeal helps, poptarts, cinnamon toast crunch, and snickers are all easy ways to get in carbs without bloating the hell outta you. too many low gi/complex carbs get me gassy

take it from someone who lives on kiddy cereal, white rice and potates, calories are the same. sure some make you feel fuller than others ie: potatoes vs pudding and cereal

you wont get any fatter from eating junk than from eating the same amount of clean bro foods.

It's a personal choice. I eat clean mostly because I get to eat much more that way, and because in the long run it'll be beneficial to overall health. Plus, if you diet frequently or for extended periods, you probably need all the nutrients you can get for a while. However if your maintenance is quite high, I can understand that there is a point of diminishing returns.

now if you're doing this for a living, and the smallest difference can determine success on stage, then there may be some incentive in eating in entirely such a bland manner.

for the average joe, looking to build some muscle/lose some fat. I doubt there would be any tangible difference. and second, is this worth the hassle ?

Mind you, eating clean does noet equal eating bland, just as much as eating junk certainly does not mean eating great tasting food. Mileages may differ.

Complex shmomplex! The term "complex" is meaningless in terms of what effect the carbohydrate has on the body. Fructose is a simple carb that has little effect on blood glucose & insulin. Maltodextrin, WMS & potato starch are all complex carbs that have the same effect on blood glucose & insulin as dextrose, a simple carb.
