Hi, guys. I don't have the book yet but am considering this diet for future cuts and wondering just how low I might expect to have to go wrt carbs. I will be eating around 2K a day on my cuts and am 135lbs (@20%) with an end goal of 125lbs (@11%) and then I will go down from there until sufficiently ript for a shoot.
I am asking about this because I already know that I die on anything less than 100g a day of carbs. I can do it one day but more than that kills me. I also know that I do not do so well carb loading. First problem is I cannot eat a lot of carbs (over 300g a day) and when I do, it wipes me out for a long while. (makes me sleep) I do not eat sugar or processed food so all my carbs come from vegetables, fruits, whole oats and occasionally a piece of whole wheat bread or roll. Because I don't eat any of the processed carbs I am wondering if it would be hard to do the "carb up" days and what I might expect to be asked to do on those. If someone could provide for me a ballpark figure of carb ranges I would be able to comprehend the diet's suitability or rather my ability to work it. |

This diet is definitely not for you then.
For starters if you are a male, it's recommended you be no higher than 15% BF. If you are a female disregard that info you are in the range. Every day on this diet is basically what you admittedly don't do well on. Multiple consecutive days of carbs well below 100 grams, followed by multiple days of carb loading. |

Is it necessary for her to drop her carbs super low to get as lean as she wants though?

Necessary in general, no. But, for this particular diet, yes.

I am female and a bber. (very disciplined and capable) It is definately NOT required to drop carbs low for me to drop bf% to sub 12%. I have done it with my carbs significantly higher. I have a high metabolism and can drop down very low in bf% on 1800 cals a day or higher. My problem is that I dropped a lot of LBM when I did this so am looking for alternatives. Lyle recommended I look into UD2.
I suck at the low carb and/or the high carb thing though so am wondering what sort of ranges I would be looking at swinging around. Right now I do a non-linear diet with carbs at 170g a day rest days and 230g on the workout days. I could potentially live at 100g a day for 2 days but more than that would honestly destroy me I am afraid. Sigh.... Thanks guys. You answered my questions. Not sure now what to do...Last edited by kfisherx : 02-12-2009 at 06:44 PM. |

What was your protein intake during your competion dieting phase which you said you lost too much muscle?
Also, what did your training look like during this? Specifically, what rep ranges were you using during your comp diet? |

Patrick, hush.
The OP is female and the diet provides an option of carbs at 100g /day for people who can't handle the 'normal' 50 g/day. Lyle |

I apologize. I've always had it ingrained in my head to keep carbs near 50. I completely forgot.

What are you using to get your bodyfat % may I ask? I remember reading your threads from FLTS, and I remember that you were down to a very low % at some point. How are you measuring it? What is it about the lower carbs that destroys you so much? I am just curious......... |

I don't recall that I ever did FLTS. I do bf% via a number of methods. I have an Ormron 4 point bio-impedence device. I have a local bber trainer who does skindex calipers and tapes me once a month and I ask experienced people what they think as well. When they all agree on an approximate % I know I am close. I know right now I am between 18-21%. I intend to get down to 11-12% and then go as low as I have to in order to get rid of the stubborn fat that hangs on my lower ab and back area. After that one more serious bulking season and then I show.
I cannot funtion on low carbs. My head gets fuzzy and I have no energy for anything. My quality of life is too degraded. I work during the day as a PM at Intel so have to be alert and active all day. I also own a farm so go home from there and throw hay, clean stalls, etc. I am a super highly active and high energy person normally and I piss through carbs pretty nicely during a normal day. You migh say I am a Queen of NEAT. I don't think that anyone who is proficient at NEAT could do low carb. Patrick: Just saw your post above Lyle's. During my first cut I ate 1.5-2 g a day (P) and .4-.7g (F) and the rest were carbs (all g are x body weight). Ummm... Carbs. My training was straight up hypertrophy 8-12 range. I did mainly body parts but always do compound lifts like deads, squats, pulls, etc. Oh yeah and NO (that would be zero) cardio all the way down to 11%. Thanks for the correction Lyle. I thought perhaps there was an option since you acknowledged this in your other book as an issue for folks. Last edited by kfisherx : 02-12-2009 at 11:37 PM. |
