Default 3 to 5 Hours...Which Side to Err On?

Lyle, I've read your recommendation about eating every 3 to 5 hours numerous times, but often I have to choose between eating less than 3 hours since my last meal or more than 5 hours since my last meal. Which side of the range is it better to err on?

I have never seen Lyle recommend eating every 3-5 hours, in fact I've only seen him say that there are no studies to support the notion of x meals per day or that frequency of meals in a given day has any merit. In fact, if anything it seems that IF has more support from studies than anything, and that isn't eating every 3-5 hours...

Have I missed something?

In the protein book, based on some kinetics regarding protein absorption times and the possibliity that eating too frequenly might make skeletal muscle insensitive to aminos, I threw out that value as a rough compromise. I also mentioned that it depends a lot on the size of the meal. There are other issues, many practical, that go into meal frequency as well. Pages in taht book so I can't retype it all here.

Ah - that book is next on my list, along with SFP. Thanks for the clarification!

Interesting. Ive been sipping on 100+ g protein whey through the day to meet my needs when I am cutting on not thinking about macros. Would that be detrimental in the long run? I planned on picking up the book a long time ago, I figured I should soon enough now.
